chapter 1 رحله الى مركز الارض ( الصف الثالث)

JAxel and his uncle, Professor Lidenbrock lived in a house in the city of Hamburg .
JMartha, Professor Lidenbrock’ s cook was worried because he came back home so early and his dinner wasn’ t ready yet .
JProfessor Lidenbrock found a book which was more than six hundred years old . It was a translation of a famous Icelandic book . It was written by Snorri Sturlasson in the twelfth century .
JA piece of parchment fell out of the book and there were strange letters on it, so Professor Lidenbrock guessed that it was written in runes which were the letters of the old Icelandic alphabet .
JProfessor Lidenbrock gave lectures at the University of Hamburg . He was a famous geologist and knew more about the Earth than any other scientist, so other geologists came from all over the world to learn from him .

JWhen Axel’ s parents died, he came to live with his uncle and he was proud to be the assistant of such a famous man .
JProfessor Lidenbrock couldn’ t read the writing on the parchment because the letters were mixed up and it was written in a secret code .
3
JProfessor Lidenbrock guessed that the parchment was written by someone who owned the book because the parchment and the book weren’ t written in the same handwriting and the parchment was later than the book .
JProfessor Lidenbrock used a magnifying glass to make the letters bigger and then he could see the name of Arne Saknussemm who wrote the parchment in the sixteenth century . He was a famous Icelandic scientist and made many great scientific discoveries .
4JProfessor Lidenbrock guessed that the parchment was written in Latin not runes because scientists of the sixteenth century always wrote about their discoveries in Latin .
JProfessor Lidenbrock knew runes and Latin, but he couldn’ t understand the message on the parchment . He went out of the house without his dinner and slammed the door behind him .
